MOTHER LOST PARADISE
Video installation presented in the "PROEM" exhibition in GlaugoAIR Gallery (Berlin) in July 2024.
I grew up by a river. In summer times I would often swim there with my mom. The serenity and beauty offered by the place stood in stark contrast to the constant struggle she was facing as a single mother.
Recently, this vision resurfaced from the past as a memory encompassing all my senses: I was back in my child's body, pressed against my mother's skin in the bottom of the river. The rays of sun dancing with the freshness of the water, creating an illusion promising that all is well.
As I accessed this memory, a concept arose that soon became an obsession: Reclaiming Paradise.
Our birthright to a certain quality of life. A vision of ourselves as part of an environment that holds us, and necessity for our imaginations to envision utopian realms, and weave it back into our lives. I wonder what my mother's life would have been like in a gentler society. I know she isn't alone in this, but one of many mothers lost paradise.
